Mariellen has painted portraits from favorite
photographs of deceased loved ones; creating a
means of incorporating cremated ashes into the
person's portrait for a lasting remembrance. What
better way to remember a loved one than to paint
their portrait encapsulating their ashes into their
image? It is so much better than having the ashes
sit in an urn on a mantle.
Art Instruction
Mariellen has been the adult oil painting instructor
for the City of Half Moon Bay for 5 years, has a
television art instruction show and also teaches
private art students in San Diego County.

This portrait, "Ted & Lorelei" was commissioned
by the daughter of the depicted couple. The
source photo for the portrait was taken on their
wedding day, 40 years ago. The husband had
passed away, and his ashes were incorporated
into his face and hands in the portrait. The
portrait was presented to his widow in Greece
this year by their daughter. It is her most
cherished possession.
