Mariellen honed her teaching skills as the Manager of
Training & Development with AT&T Computer Systems
Division in the 1980s.  She has developed a classroom
instruction technique that allows the student to paint in
their own style (NOT the teachers!).  Each student is
allowed to paint landscapes, seascapes, still lifes and
portraits (portraits are for experienced artists only) at their
own pace from photographs of their own choosing.

While being taught all aspects of painting, the students
learn in a fun, stress-free non-competitive environment.
She helps both the professional and the beginner artist
learn the basics and the advanced aspects of composition,
value, color theory and mixing, tools, techniques, glazing,
etc. in all representational styles (impressionists and
realists).  Impasto, alla prima and layering styles are all
explored to determine the best fit for the individual student.

Impressionists learn the techniques of different styles of
brushwork as well as the all important various painting
mediums and history from the Masters of the style (Van
Gogh, Monet, Manet, Matisse, Cezanne, etc.); while Realism
painters learn various painting techniques indicative of their
style, including the art of glazing - a layering technique
Mariellen has mastered.  They learn proper tool selection
and the art history of their Master artists.

As a Master Portrait Artist, Mariellen lectures and teaches
the Advanced Artist portraiture techniques.  Students are
taken on field trips to Fine Art Museums and she lectures
on the technical aspects of the Masters paintings from
composition to technique.
