John recently hard at work painting another masterpiece

"I have been a student of Mariellen's for about eight
months. It has been an enjoyable and rewarding
experience. I started oil painting on my own in about
1980. It was not a good experience since I knew
nothing about basics. I learned a little in a class I
took, but the teacher and I didn't see eye-to-eye on a
few things so it ended badly. I painted so many flat
looking landscapes that I gave up in despair. Last
February I began taking classes with Mariellen twice
a week. She has gently and PATIENTLY led me
through the basics of oil painting.
I am learning things like color mixing, perspective,
brush selection, values, glazing, technique, alla
prima, layering and a hundred other things that I
just learn by watching and listening to her. I have
learned the beauty of being at one with a painting
and being totally unaware of the world around me
while painting. I have learned the satisfaction of
finishing a painting and not wanting to hide it in the
closet before anyone could see it. I don't know if
what I have painted is beautiful or not, but it sure
makes me feel good inside. Thank you for that
Mariellen."
